Managing Arthritic Conditions with Laser Therapy
Arthritis: Inflammation of a joint, usually accompanied by pain, swelling, and stiffness, resulting from infection, trauma, degenerative changes, metabolic disturbances, or other causes. It occurs in various forms such as bacterial arthritis, osteoarthritis, or rheumatoid arthritis.
As clinicians, you should see some words you’re familiar with. Pain, swelling, stiffness, metabolic disturbance etc. Each of these are maladies we are used to seeing and that respond well to photobiomodulation, without side effects. Some estimate that nearly 25% of the U.S. population have been diagnosed with having one of the 100+ types of arthritis. You could open a practice treating only arthritic conditions and stay as busy as you would ever want to be.
Join us on Laser Therapy University with your host Dr. Christopher Carraway for this in depth look at treating various types of arthritis with a drug-free and non-invasive approach, using light.

Resolving Trigger Point Pain with Laser Therapy
Trigger points can develop as a result of muscular injuries, strains, and trauma. When muscle fibers, fascia, ligaments, or tendons become weakened, overstretched, or inflamed, tiny tears in the associated soft tissue can occur. As the tissue heals it contracts, becoming twisted and knotted. These knotted fibers restrict the fresh blood supply needed by the muscle cells. In addition, there is often a shortening of the muscle fiber to protect itself from further injury.
When these become chronic, trigger points can trigger other trigger points to develop. Then we have a vicious cycle of pain and restriction. Trigger points will often cause pain far beyond the location of the actual trigger point with can further serve to fog the diagnostic process.
Conventional treatment of trigger points with compression, dry needling, and injections are both painful and offer limited relief. PBM has been found to be a superior way to resolve trigger points with lasting effect and no to minimal discomfort in most cases.
Join Drs. Christopher Carraway and Timothy Demchak as they delve into the world of trigger points and referred pain and show you techniques with laser therapy to reach resolution

New Developments in Treating Neuropathy with Laser Therapy
More than 20 million people in the USA have been estimated to have some form of peripheral neuropathy, but this figure may be significantly higher. Neuropathy pain can range from a mild annoyance to near disabling pain. Diagnosing the cause of neuropathic pain can be difficult and some patients are compromised in several ways. This further complicates managing these types of patients.
There are few effective pharmaceutical treatments, and most all only manage symptoms and normally have significant unpleasant side effects. With breakthroughs in photoceutical care, there are opportunities to help patients who suffer with neuropathic pain syndrome and do that without any side effects.
Laser Therapy U's 2023 kickoff webinar will look at the available science and therapeutic laser treatments, as well as utilizing them in your practice. Join Dr. Christopher Carraway as we delve into this fascinating field.

Laser Therapy Management of Autonomic Nervous System Conditions
The autonomic nervous system (ANS) regulates a variety of body process that takes place without conscious effort. The ANS is the part of the peripheral nervous system that is responsible for regulating involuntary body functions, such as heartbeat, blood flow, breathing, and digestion. In short, it keeps you alive. Thankfully we do not have to think about the ANS function to get us through our daily functions. If the heart rate needs to be increased, then it happens. If hormones need to be released for this or that, you don't have to figure out what to do. It just happens automatically - under normal conditions.
What about abnormal ANS issues like postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), autonomic dystonia, or amplified musculoskeletal pain syndrome (AMPS)? Can photobiomodulation be applied to various portions of the ANS for health benefits? We are finding that the answer is YES!
Join Dr. Christopher Carraway and his special guest, Dr. Timothy Demchak, Professor of Applied Medicine and Rehabilitation at Indiana State University in Terre Haute. He is also the founder, director, and head clinician of the Athletic Training Service at the Wabash Valley Heath Center in Indiana. Together they will be exploring some of the current work being done in the field of management and treatment of ANS disorders.

Laser Therapy Beyond Patient Crisis Mode
Is it possible for laser therapy to increase successful outcomes beyond specific treatments for tennis elbow, lower back pain, migraine headaches, etc? The answer is Yes. We can pull from the data base of published research and craft protocols that are not crisis or rehabilitation oriented.
For example, we know that laser use in the form of photohemotherapy (PHT), improves the oxygen carrying capabilities of the blood. Might this be used for general health and wellbeing? Would a little boost of 02 be a good thing? We know that PBM is used to promote muscle repair and improve strength and endurance with athletes. Could PBM be used to address age related muscle loss? How about osteoporosis or Degenerative arthritis? You’ll be encouraged by what the literature has to say on all these topics.
With a little forward thinking, the possibilities of what can be achieved begin to become much clearer. Join Dr. Chris Carraway in June for a review of laser therapy uses, beyond the crisis.

Unraveling Fibromyalgia with Laser Therapy
Fibromyalgia is a syndrome marked by chronic, widespread pain in the muscles and soft tissues with defined points of tenderness and often other symptoms, such as fatigue, sleep disturbance, anxiety, and bowel dysfunction.
Doctors have officially been studying the condition since the 1800’s, and in 1816 University of Edinburgh surgeon, Dr. William Balfour gave the first medical description of Fibromyalgia, and identified the described tender points for what they are. Some suggest there are even earlier accounts of the description of fibromyalgia symptoms, such as in the Bible, Book of Job: “Depression haunts my days, my weary nights are filled with pain as though something were relentlessly gnawing at my bones.” To the modern-day fibromyalgia sufferer, this description sounds very close to home.
Our special guest presenter is Dr. Tim Demchak who has authored several papers on the treatment of Fibromyalgia with Laser Therapy, and he is showing good and lasting results with some very innovative protocols. Join him, along with Dr. Chris Carraway to gain a deeper understanding on using Laser Therapy for these chronic pain patients.

Clinical Decision Making in Laser Therapy
This webinar is a detailed course on clinical decision making in the application of laser therapy. The concept of just throwing photons at tissue and hoping for the best isn’t the best strategy. There are many factors we need to consider:
• What phase of healing is the injury in?
• Is it acute or chronic?
• What length of time has the condition been present?
• Any complicating factors such as atrophy, joint stiffness, myofascial pain and trigger points?
Every single one of these questions will have an impact on your case management. The order in which we address a patient's pain, swelling, and inflammation can critically determine outcomes. This webinar with break down each of the 11 Priority Principles in an easy-to-understand package.
We will also be discussing the popular new website, Laser Therapy U's ProtocolBuild.com. This little jewel is a step-by-step instructional clinical tool to maximize laser therapy applications using the Priority Principle. Laser Therapy: The Continuum of Care
Essentially a continuum of care system (CoCS) provides a comprehensive range of health services, so that care can evolve with the patient over their entire health span. With the awareness that a patient’s health may be most at-risk during breaks in care, the continuum of care exists to ensure those gaps are filled. This covers all phases of illness from diagnosis to the end of life. Laser therapy is a well-suited modality that can provide an extensive array of preventive care, through medical incidents, rehabilitation, and maintenance care options.
In this webinar we are going beyond the patient's chief complaint. We are going beyond becoming faster, stronger, and gaining endurance. There are laser therapy gains for "healthy" individuals too. What is the point of a long life if the quality is less than optimal? Could we possibly delay or even avoid some common aging factors? There is a growing collection of scientific papers on the neuroprotective properties with laser therapy. The news media continually tell us that nursing homes are going to be full of Alzheimer's and Dementia patients in the coming decades. Could the regular application of some simple laser protocols change this? Scientists are reporting necessary steps to do just that. Could a handful of PBM protocols keep the elderly more active later into life? Again, the science says yes.

Super Pulsed Laser Therapy and Athletic Performance
We have long understood that light can be used therapeutically in the form of LED and Laser to achieve some remarkable results for tissue repair for muscles, bones, joints, and nerves. This has been established in the scientific literature and most of us witness this in our practices on a regular basis.
For those who do not treat high level athletes and may see more of the weekend warrior type, this webinar will educate you on how to take these folks to a new level of performance and safeguard them from injuries. Also, as our population grows older, often the desire to stay active is still present, but the body is not quite as willing. These performance techniques can be a game-changer for the 65+ crowd.
If exercises and sporting activity leaves you sore and aching for days afterwards, we are going to show you how to almost eliminate the issue of Delayed Onset of Muscle Soreness (DOMS) that often results from exercise or activity. If you have a desire to help your athletic patients get more out of themselves on the playing field, or to have your active seniors stay mobile, then this is the webinar for you.

LaserStim: Better Technology for Superior Patient Outcomes
Laser protocol manuals have always tried to pinpoint laser emitter locations, to the best of their ability, on a flat diagram. However, the human body is not flat and comes in many shapes and sizes and exact locations for the application of therapeutic lasers is at best, difficult.
The ability to deliver treatments, such as super pulsed laser, to tissue in a very precise location can greatly enhance the effectiveness of this therapy. The LaserStim with TARGET™ technology enables you to do exactly that; by detecting the precise location of affected tissue, using biofeedback within E-stim. Measuring changes in skin impedance and informing the clinician that the tissue immediately under the device is compromised, has drastically changed the way laser treatments are administered. Clinicians can treat with confidence, knowing super pulsed laser therapy has been customized to the individual and they are maximizing its photoceutical effect for more consistent clinical outcomes.

Low Level Laser and Treatment of the Hip
The number of hip replacements in the US has been on a steady rise for over a decade. Procedures are rapidly evolving as this trend continues. New U.S. Government stats also show that more and more young people are undergoing hip replacement surgery; and while life expectancy age has risen, joint deterioration is a fact of life for many. We have an opportunity to change this trend for surgery with conservative care and patient education, and to address a wide range of hip complaints with laser therapy.
Laser offers a new way to combat hip dysfunction and degeneration. The procedures are non-invasive, easy to apply and offer no side effects. In some cases, we can prepare a patient for an easier recovery from surgery, possibly delay the need for surgery, and in other cases help patients to avoid hip surgery altogether.

Photobiomodulation and the Autonomic Nervous System
The autonomic nervous system (ANS) is a control system that acts largely unconsciously and regulates bodily functions such as the heart rate, digestion, respiratory rate, pupillary response, urination, and sexual arousal. This system is the primary mechanism in control of the fight-or-flight response.
Many organs are controlled primarily by either the sympathetic or the parasympathetic division. Sometimes the two divisions have opposite effects on the same organ. For example, the sympathetic division increases blood pressure, and the parasympathetic division decreases it. Overall, the two divisions work together to ensure that the body responds appropriately to different situations.
We are used treating nerve pain and dysfunction such as sciatica and carpal tunnel syndrome. Can we affect and restore function to the ANS and affect end organ function? Yes, we can, and we already are doing so. We have protocols for the stellate ganglion and the sphenopalatine ganglion for example, which have far-reaching functional controls.
Join Dr. Christopher Carraway and special guest Timothy Demchak, PhD, ATC, as they explore using super pulsed laser therapy to affect body controls such as vasoconstriction and vasodilation, which ganglion to stimulate or inhibit, and other topics in Photobiomodulation and the Autonomic Nervous System.

Alleviating Low Back Pain with Super Pulsed Laser
Americans spend at least $50 billion each year on back pain, and that’s just for the more easily identified costs.
Over 31 million Americans experience LBP at any given time. One-half of all working Americans admit to having back pain symptoms each year, and LBP is the second most common reason for visits to the doctor’s office, and is outnumbered only by upper-respiratory infections. Back pain is one of the most common reasons for missed work.
In this webinar we will work to unravel lower back pain (LBP) from a new perspective and discuss how to add Super Pulsed Laser (SPL) to your clinical approach for superior outcomes. SPL can be blended with a multitude of techniques and practices.

PBM for Strength and Flexibility
Flexible joints require less energy to move through a greater range of motion. This decreases your overall risk of injury and increases physical performance as well. Inactivity is one of the key reasons that muscles lose their natural suppleness and flexibility and can become prone to tears, aches, and pains. If the situation is not remedied in time, loss of flexibility could lead to permanent changes in posture and normal muscle function.
It is therefore imperative to maintain muscle flexibility as an important component of overall fitness. As we age, your muscles naturally lose strength and size and can become less supple and stiffer. Our sedentary lifestyle and work habits are major contributors to loss of ROM and inflexibility. Trying to regain what you have lost over the years can be a struggle. Physically inactive people can lose as much as 5% of their muscle mass each decade after age 30. Even if you are active, you'll still have some muscle loss.
PBM has a lot to offer towards making this path to less painful and enjoyable and is a game changer for muscle conditioning and restoring function. Join Dr. Chris Carraway for our July webinar as he discusses PBM for Strength and Flexibility

Photobiomodulation from the Neck Up
In the U.S., more than 38 million people suffer from migraines. Some migraine studies estimate that 13 percent of adults in the U.S. population have migraines, and 2-3 million migraines sufferers are chronic. More than 11 million people blame migraines for causing moderate to severe disability.
Cluster headaches are another type of disabling headache and called the Suicide Headache as sadly a percentage of sufferers will end their lives to stop the suffering. Another horrifically painful face pain condition, Trigeminal Neuralgia will also drive patients to the point of suicide. As a matter of fact, 25% of these sufferers commit suicide.
In the June webinar we will also discuss facial and scalp neuralgia's, pain syndromes, and ways LLLT can assist with treatment from the Neck, up. The techniques taught will be life changing for these patients. Join Dr. Chris Carraway as he discusses using laser therapy to help those suffering with Head, Neck, and Facial conditions.

Low Level Laser Therapy and Common Knee Conditions
Approximately 700,000 knee replacement procedures are performed annually in the US. This number is projected to increase to 3.48 million procedures per year by 2030. There is a growing data base demonstrating that there are many alternatives to knee replacement and PBM is a leader in that group.
Knee Replacement should be a last choice but most patients are not being informed as to what choices they may have. You will be impressed with the wealth of research available supporting PBM, where the results are fast and lasting with zero side effects.
In this webinar we will break down some of the more common knee conditions and discuss what PBM has to offer these patients. On the chances that a patient does need a visit to the OR, we will teach you how to help with the rehab and shorten the recovery with better outcomes.
At the close of this webinar you will be better equipped to assist these patients and help to keep some of them out of the operating room. Join Dr. Chris Carraway as he discusses Laser Therapy for Common Knee Conditions.

Laser Therapy Basics
Laser Basics is usually covered in our first webinar of the year! Low level laser therapy is an emerging field in the medical and veterinary wheelhouses. Effectiveness of this therapy depends on the light Wavelength, the intensity of light, and the total energy (Dose) that is being delivered to the tissue.
What absorbs light? What is its mechanism of action? What techniques and methods are used to most effectively administer this type of therapy and what are the benefits?
If you are a new laser owner, this is a great opportunity to develop skills and knowledge of the application of light and how light and tissue interacts. If you are an experienced user, it’s a good time to brush up on that knowledge and reacquaint yourself with basic techniques of laser therapy.

Super Pulsed Laser and the Holistic Veterinary Practice
Onsite statistics from The American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association revealed it has over 800 members in the U.S. This may seem like a healthy number, but one must note that the American Veterinary Medical Association report placed the number of active veterinarians at over 92,000. This puts veterinarians offering holistic medicine at considerably less than 1%. But now in 2018, Holistic Veterinary practices are opening nationwide at a more frequent pace than past years. Using SPL as a non-invasive, non-drug and non-thermal treatment is a great addition to your holistic practice.

PBM and the Brain: What’s been done, and what’s being done for Dementia and similar disorders
Brain photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy using red to near-infrared is yielding some very interesting results in research labs and in clinical practice alike. The brain has similar metabolic needs. The mitochondria have the same cytochrome c oxidase. It has also been demonstrated time and time again that PBM penetrates bone.
From using PBM’s anti-inflammatory effects, anti-apoptotic, and antioxidant response, there is a therapeutic use for neural tissue and yes, the brain is included.
This webinar will be steeped in research and scientific abstracts related to this topic. Everything covered will be supported by the current science available. Laser Therapy for Fibromyalgia & Chronic Fatigue
Fibromyalgia is a disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by fatigue, sleep, memory and mood issues. Researchers believe that fibromyalgia amplifies painful sensations by affecting the way your brain processes pain signals.
Symptoms sometimes begin after a physical trauma, surgery, infection or significant psychological stress. In other cases, symptoms gradually accumulate over time with no single triggering event.
Many people who have fibromyalgia also have tension headaches, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, irritable bowel syndrome, anxiety and depression. PBM has a lot to offer these patients in long term drug-free relief.

Laser Therapy Basics: Actions, Methods, Techniques, & Dose
Laser therapy is an emerging medical and veterinary technique in which exposure to low-level laser light or light emitting diodes stimulates cellular function leading to beneficial clinical effects. The term adopted is Photobiomodulation. Effectiveness of this therapy depends on the color of the light (wavelength), intensity, and total energy (dose) that is actually delivered to the tissue.

Using Super Pulsed Laser….Why does it work? Understanding the Mechanisms of Action
Laser Therapy is an emerging medical and veterinary technique in which exposure to low-level laser light emitting diodes, stimulates cellular function with beneficial clinical effects. The term adopted by NASA and U.S. military scientists is Photobiomodulation.
Effectiveness depends on the Color of the light (wavelength), Intensity, and the Amount of energy delivered. The first rule is that energy must be absorbed. What absorbs light and What is its Mechanism of Action?
Join Dr.’s Carraway and Eells for an insightful discussion of the interactions of light and tissue, and its clinical applications.

VERTIGO: Can Super Pulsed Laser Help?
One recent large epidemiological study estimates that as many as 35% of adults aged 40 years or older in the United States have experienced some form of vestibular dysfunction. Eighty percent of people aged 65 years and older have experienced dizziness, and BPPV (Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo), the most common vestibular disorder, is the cause of approximately 50% of dizziness in older people.
Approximately eight million American adults report a chronic problem (lasting three months or longer) with balance, while an additional 2.4 million American adults report a chronic problem with dizziness alone. Overall, vertigo from a vestibular problem accounts for a third of all dizziness symptoms reported to health care professionals.
Super Pulsed Laser offers a unique approach to treating this condition without the use of medications and the associated side effects. Join Dr. Chris Carraway for an in-depth look at this problem, and ways the SPL may be able to help these patients
